Women of the ELCA

Our Purpose: As a community of women, created in the image of God, called to discipleship in Jesus Christ, and empowered by the Holy Spirit, we commit ourselves to grow in faith, affirm our gifts, support one another in our callings, engage in ministry and action, and promote healing and wholeness in the church, the society, and the world.
One Mission: To mobilize women to act boldly on their faith in Jesus Christ.
Three Mission areas:
  • Community: to enable each woman to value herself and others as created in God’s image and redeemed through Christ; and to build up and celebrate relationships that are global, diverse, and interdependent.
  • Growth: To provide a variety of learning experiences that strengthen each woman as a whole person, develop her potential, and equip her for ministry.
  • Action: To enable women to articulate and act upon their faith as disciples of Christ in all arenas of life.
Local Opportunities at First Lutheran:
Executive Board meets the first Tuesday of each month at 9 a.m. in the church basement, all women are welcome.
Bertha Rex Group meets the second Tuesday of each month at 11:45 a.m.   Bring a sack lunch and join us in Bible Study from the Lutheran Woman magazine.
Cluster Meetings: Cluster 8 WELCA groups meet in the spring and fall for gatherings on a regional basis for a chance to worship together and hear a speaker.
Annual Meeting: The annual meeting is held in September. It is usually a supper meeting at which we have a speaker or do service projects.
Mission: Action This is the group of busy, faithful women who meet the third Monday and Tuesday of the month from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the church basement to piece quilts, sew tops and backs, tie quilts, and assemble kits for Lutheran World Relief or Global Mission. Willing volunteers and helpful hands are always needed.
